Concert Review: Ed Sheeran Brings His One-Man Show to Mohegan Sun Arena

Last night I had the chance to see Ed Sheeran at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut for his first night of two sold out shows at the casino. It was phenomenal. I have been a fan of Sheeran since "The A Team" and was glad to have gotten tickets.

I got tickets back in March right when they went on sale and still got stuck with upper level 112 row M which I soon found out was last row in the upper level. I was wary at first having last row seats in upper level, but Sheeran's stage blew me away and made up for that. There was multiple screens that bared his face and cool graphics that gave every concertgoer a good view.

You might think with Sheeran being the only one on stage that he would be dwarfed by the stage and wouldn't hold his presence well but Sheeran was superb and captivating. In fact I didn't notice the lack of a band until halfway through. It was just Sheeran and his guitar. Despite this he was still able to hold the audiences's attention for the 90 minute performance.

Sheeran performed songs from his most recent album, "Divide", such as "Castle on the Hill" and "Galway Girl". Older hits of his were also performed such as "I See Fire" and "Thinking Out Loud". I loved the song choices of Sheeran's as he covered a wide range of music: fun upbeat pop songs to more slow ballads.

In fact a few rows in front of me there was an engagement to the song "Hearts Don't Break Around Here" in which Sheeran took notice and said, "in the end loves will always win". So for a couple to have been engaged in the middle of an Ed Sheeran concert the show just had to be that good.

I do wish there was more interactions between Sheeran and the crowd as he mostly remained in the center of the stage, but the big HD screens took care of this.

I also loved Sheeran's opening act, James Blunt, who is also from the U.K. Blunt was the right opening act choice for Sheeran as they both share the same acoustic tone. Blunt performed some of his hits such as "You're Beautiful" and "1973".

Blunt also did a quick meet and greet for all fans after his set where he would sign merch and take photos, but unfortunately I got there when the line was wrapped around the arena and soon left for Sheeran's performance. I would definitely see Blunt again!

Sheeran ended with "Shape if You" and "You Need Me" which totally got my heart thumping as I left the show in glee.

I totally recommend seeing Sheeran if he comes to a stop near you. Sheeran is not messing around and knows the game.
